When we started our Candle business, it was clear to us that we wanted to keep it as eco-friendly as possible. We don’t want to add to the tremendous waste that is already produced every day. However, we still want to share our colorful candles with the world but also want to keep our impact on this planet to the minimum.
We would like to show the different places where we try to keep our products eco-friendly, as we understand that this is an important decision factor when purchasing goods.
Let's start with the candles themselves:
- Wax: We use premium soy wax which is grown in the United States. Soy wax is also vegetable based and is a renewable resource. It is known for its lighter and cleaner burn (if you want to learn more about soy wax, click here).
- Fragrance: We use only phthalate free fragrance oils that are not subject to the California Proposition 65 warning requirements. This means that they DO NOT include any chemicals that are known to the California State to cause cancer and/or birth defects. We also use pure essential oils which are naturally derived oils from plants.
- Wicks: We only use lead and zinc free cotton wicks.
- Candle jars: Our colorful jars are made from 50% recycled jars and therefore, imperfections can occur. We encourage all our customers to reuse the jars and we provide a guide on how to clean out the jars here.
For the packaging, we try to use recycled material wherever possible. We promise that we will never buy any single use plastic to package our candles and all the materials can be reused or recycled by our customers.
- Gift box: All our gift boxes are made from 100% recycled material and can be recycled or reused by our customers.
- Labels: All our labels are made from 100% recycled paper.
- Shipping paper: We wrap our candles in 100% recycled brown shipping paper to keep them safe.
- Shipping box: Our shipping box is not made from recycled material but can be reused or recycled. We have not found the perfect, affordable and eco-friendly option yet. However, we will keep looking to find a better solution for this in the future.
- Tealight wrapping: Our tealights are enfolded in the wrapping paper from “Who Gives a Crap” paper towels. Their wrapping paper comes in different colors and it fits perfectly with our colorful theme while keeping the tealights safe. We package the tealights in a handmade pouch that is made out of recycled material.
- Business card: We print our business cards on 100% recycled kraft paper. Therefore, our cards are brown.
- Welcome letter: We print our letters on 100% recycled paper that is also thicker than standard printing paper.
We can always do more and therefore we will always strive to improve our efforts and reduce our impact on the environment. Our goal is to keep finding better solutions for different aspects of your Curious Candle experience. It can be difficult and expensive for small businesses to keep everything eco-friendly. However, it is not impossible and there are a lot of great alternatives available. We promise ourselves, our customers, and this planet to keep finding these better solutions and implement them.
Until very soon, stay conscious and #LightLearnLove from Curious Candles Studio.
